What kind of wood would be best for them? I really do not know what are the options for this type of project.

Redwood
Dido in the response of another type. I am building a raised bed yet and I use the lid. Do not use pressure treated somewhat. You can try to save the pressure-treated wood say more agile than harmful, not created. Recycled plastic / wood, longer than any established and is easy to process. It also has the advantage, not from endangered species.
If you want a bed for more than six advanced to meet the woodpile to be sure.
The best wood is the wood bridge. It consists of recycled plastic and wood-chip composite. It is over 100 years. without blushing. Sage cedar, redwood or other is best. Decay is usually used within five years, pressure-treated wood into a cancer-causing toxins and chemicals to kill fungi and insects.
I would flee the treated wood, because they contain arsenic, in May or other harmful chemicals. Cedar or redwood would be my choice, but it is expensive.
